BOULDER-MUNICH II

The Second Announcement

Arrangements for the meeting are proceeding apace. This page summarizes the current state of play, provides pointers to useful information, and lists additional information that we will require in order to finalize our transportation arrangements.

Scientific Programme
The scientific programme will comprise nine sessions, each approximately 1.75 hours in length. For initial planning purposes, we have assigned all speakers 20 minutes, plus 5 minutes for questions. A list of the contributed talks is included in the provisional timetable which is appended to this announcement, and is available at the Web site listed above. Participants should recall that the residential nature of the meeting provides ample opportunity for further discussions in the informal atmosphere provided by the Lodge.

If you would like a shorter or longer slot for your presentation (or have a change of title), please contact Ian Howarth (idh@star.ucl.ac.uk), and we will try to match requests for changes appropriately. We would also be pleased to hear from any listed speakers who are willing to give up their slots!

Projectors will be available for overhead transparancies and 35mm slides. If you require any special equipment (e.g., video projector) please contact idh.

Slots for talks have been allocated to all participants who responded by the deadline for the first announcement and who indicated both a firm intention to attend and a wish to give a presentation. A small number of late and `possible' registrants have not yet been assigned slots. A complete list of participants and submitted titles is available. If you think you have registered but your name is not listed there, contact Ian Howarth as soon as possible!

Proceedings
The proceedings will be published in the ASP Conference Series. Because this is a relatively small meeting, we can afford to be relatively generous in the page allowances; authors can have up to ten printed pages without difficulty. Anyone requiring more(!) can negotiate with idh.

Manuscripts must be submitted electronically, using the ASP Conference Series LaTeX macros; full details will be provided closer to the meeting. Figures should be provided as encapsulated PostScript files. The ASP do not provide reprints, and authors will be charged for any colour reproduction.

In order to ensure rapid publication, contributors are asked to provide manuscripts not more than a month after the end of the meeting.

Travel and Accommodation arrangements
The meeting formally starts at 1.00 p.m. at Cumberland Lodge on Monday 21 July, 1997. Coach transport will leave UCL, outside the `Central Collegiate Building' at 10.30 am. An annotated map of the UCL area is available here.

For those arriving at London Heathrow that morning, there will be a pickup at about 11:30 (depending on traffic!) at TERMINAL 1, ARRIVALS, WEST DOOR.

The meeting will finish after breakfast on Thursday 24 July, and a coach will leave Cumberland Lodge at 9.30 am on that day, to arrive at UCL by about 11.00 am. Dropoffs at Heathrow will be arranged if there is demand.

Those making their own travel arrangements will find details on the travel page.

We ask all participants to let us know their UK travel arrangements as soon as possible (i.e., if they require pickups/dropoffs at UCL or Heathrow, or if they require car parking at the Lodge).

Participants with special dietary requirements should notify these to idh as soon as possible.

Those requiring accommodation in London or Windsor, before or after the meeting, should also contact idh.

What to bring
The Lodge is relatively isolated, so don't expect to be able to shop for anything easily during the meeting; if you can't survive without a daily chocolate bar, bring some with you (we will be arranging plentiful supplies of refreshments, including a bar).

Although British weather is capricious at all times, July is usually rather pleasant. It would be wise to bring a sweatshirt, jacket, or cardigan, at least for the evenings, but a heavy coat is unlikely to be necessary. Shorts and tee-shirts have been sighted at this time of year.

The conference will be informal at all times (including the `conference dinner').

Costs and Payment
The standard cost to participants is 350 pounds sterling (inclusive of accommodation, meals and refreshments, coach transportation, proceedings volume, and taxes). There is no registration fee as such. A special rate of 175 pounds is available for full-time students; this lower rate also applies to non-participating partners (who will not receive the proceedings volume).

Payment should be by cheque, made payable to `University College London'. Europeans should be able to provide Eurocheques made out for sterling; because UK banks levy a charge on recipients of Eurocheques for sums of 200 pounds or greater, we request that European participants provide TWO Eurocheques, each for 175 pounds. We can also accept cheques in US dollars, but to allow for overheads we require that they be made out for 600 dollars.

Cheques should be sent to:

Dept. Physics & Astronomy
University College London
Gower Street

England

to be received NOT LATER THAN JUNE 1. Receipt will be acknowledged by email; receipts on paper will not be provided except on request.
