# In doing some research in 15th century Sicily I ran across the name of a
# Jewish convert to Catholicism, one Eulalia Tamaret. The name Eulalia is
# from a Spanish 4th century Christian martyr. My question is-
# If a Jewess would vonvert to being Catholic, would she need to take on the
# name of a saint.

Dear David,
Modern canon law (canon 855) says only that the name given in
baptism must not be "foreign to Christian sentiment". There is no
law today mandating the name of a Saint or a "Christian name".
I do not know what the practice was in 15th century Sicily.
Sincerely in Christ,
Father Mateo
