| Dear Father Mateo, I am old enough to remember the pre Vatican II Mass
| which began
| which began with the Priest saying in Latin, I will go unto the altar
| of the Lord. The servor responded to God, the joy of my youth.
| These words have always been very meaningfull to me, but I've never found
| them in the Bnd
| them in the Bible. Can you tell me where they originated? Thanks so much.

Dear Scott,
The psalm verse you remember is from psalm 42, verse 4 in the Douay
Rheims translation: "I will go in to the altar of God, to God who
giveth joy to my youth."
This is psalm 43, verse 4 in the New American Bible, which we use
nowadays in church: "Then will I go in to the altar of God, the God of
my gladness and joy."
The Revised Standard Version (43:4) reads: "Then I will go to the altar
of God, to God my exceeding joy."
Sincerely in Christ,
Father Mateo
