Msg Base: AREA 5 - ASK FATHER CIN ECHO AMDG Msg No: 174. Sat 11-02-91 22:54 (NO KILL) (MAILED) From: Father Mateo To: Marilyn Kimball Subject: Home CCD ³ Dear Father, What do you think about teaching ones own children CCD at ³ home. I've given up on our parish program since my 7th grader had a "sex ³ education series" that taught against what I thought was Catholic, that is ³ that masturbation and contraceptives in marraige were morally wrong. So ³ I pulled all my children ages, 13,12,10 and 2 out of CCd. Now I'm teaching ³ ccd at home. The only problem with it is there is no one to go to with ³ questions I can't answer and no support from my parish for what I'm doing. ³ The positive side of it is that I'm learning right along with the ³ children and I am getting to know where my children are at with their ³ faith. I'm going to start my two year old who will be three after ³ Christmas with a pre-school program I wonder if other parents have this ³ problem of inadequate CCD programs for their children. ³ Dear Marilyn, I'm completely for teaching children at home if the parish can't or won't do it right. There is a Mike O'Donnell who lives in Maryland and logs onto this net. I think he has some experience in this area. Why don't you talk to him (the sysop can help you avoid phone charges, I think)? Why don't you share your experiences with other parents? I'm sure people would love to know what books you are using. Finding religion texts today is a real difficulty. To answer questions, you have to keep reading. You'll receive valuable direction from the Daughters of St. Paul, 1570 - 5th Avenue, San Diego, CA 92101, telephone (619) 232-1442. Sincerely in Christ, Father Mateo
