Msg Base: AREA 5 - ASK FATHER CIN ECHO AMDG Msg No: 116. Tue 8-13-91 7:25 From: Father Mateo To: Pat Kelley Subject: Speaking in Tongues ³ Thanks for the reply, but does this mean that the interpetation of ³ speaking in tongues, "language that is said but cannot be understood" is ³ in good standing with the church? Dear Pat, I refer you again to 1 Corinthians 14:1-33 and 36-40, especially v.39 "... do not forbid speaking in tongues." As I said before, the Holy See has made no official statement on the subject that I know of since 1976. St. Paul does not seem to consider the possibility of "language that is said but cannot be understood." His "speaking in tongues" is understood, but only by God, not by the human hearers. Sincerely in Christ, Father Mateo
