o RAS: the Royal Astronomical Society
The Royal Astronomical Society, founded in 1820, is the UK's professional body for astronomers and geophysicists.


o AAS: the American Astronomical Society
The American Astronomical Society is the major professional organization in North America for astronomers, and includes a monthly Job Register, as well as a searchable membership directory. Publishes a number of journals, including the Astrophysical Journal and the Astronomical Journal
o American Geophysical Union (AGU)
The Americal Geophysical Union is the major professional organization in North America for geophysicists.
o Armagh Planetarium
 
o Association for Astronomy Education (AAE)
The AAE promotes public education in Astronomy, and supports the teaching of Astronomy to students at all levels of education.
o ASP: the Astronomical Society of the Pacific
The Astronomical Society of the Pacific; publishes the technical journal PASP and the semi-popular magazine Mercury, as well as an extensive series of conference proceedings.
o BAA: the British Astronomical Association
British Astronomical Association, a UK amateur astronomy organization, with its own Journal
o BNSC
The British National Space Centre.

The Center de Donnees astronomiques de Strasbourg -- a major source of astronomical bibliograpic and database services, including Simbad.
o CHARA
The Center for High Angular Resolution Astronomy.

o Save British Science (SBS)
The Save British Science organization is a lobby group seeking improvements in funding and conditions for science and scientists in the UK.

'Students for the Exploration and Development of Space' (also UKSEDS), an independent, student-based organization which promotes the exploration and development of space – includes lots of useful links.
o The Society for the History of Astronomy
Promoting academic, educational and popular interest in the history of the science of astronomy and related subjects.
o Society for Popular Astronomy (SPA)
The Society for Popular Astronomy has over 2500 members of all ages and all astronomical abilities, and especially welcomes those beginning an interest in astronomy. The Web site lists what's in the night sky, and all the latest amateur astronomy news.

o Starlink
Starlink provides and distributes a wide range of astronomical software.
Starlink Documentation Up-to-date copies of Starlink User Notes, General Papers, User Guides etc., kept on-line at RAL.

o ST-ECF: the Space Telescope European Co-ordinating Facility
The ECF co-ordinates and supports European activities in connection with the Space Telescope (see also the Space Telescope Science Institute and the UK Support Facility in Cambridge.)
o STScI: the Space Telescope Science Institute
Among other functions, the STScI operates the Hubble Space Telescope (HST). (See also the Space Telescope European Coordinating Facility in Garching and the UK Support Facility in Cambridge.)
