Mon 6-08-92 15:56 (RECV'D) (MAILED) From: Father Mateo To: Jane Harper Subject: Universal Catechism ÚÄ ³ When the Universal Catechism comes out, having been written by the Bishops ³ under their magisterial authority, will it be infallible? ÀÄ[JH=>TGF] Dear Jane, The 1st Vatican Council declared that "The truths of revelation PROPOSED AS SUCH by the ordinary and general teaching office of the Church are to be firmly held with divine and Catholic faith" (Denzinger 1792). Certainly, parts of the Universal Catechism (which has not yet appeared) will express such truths of revelation. But I'm sure that much of the Catechism will be devoted to explaining and illustrating these truths. So not all the Catechism will be infallible teaching. Sincerely in Christ, Father Mateo
